Press Release 1st March 2008

Detmold flexes its growing muscles

Consolidation in the flexibles sector in recent years has left the market with two major players who dominate the market Aperio/Finewrap group and Amcor Flexibles. But there's a rising star the industry would do well to keep an eye on, Detmold Flexibles.

A division of the $400 million Detmold Group, Detmold Flexibles has made some significant changes to the business since it was purchased from the Gabb family in August 2005. The company has engaged in an extensive building and machinery expansion program, increased the depth of its technical expertise, and established a new business development group to drive sales through innovation and customer service excellence, all moves which will see Detmold expand its capability considerably in the flexible printing and converting sector.
And to direct the repositioning of the business, there's a new man at the helm, CEO John Morriss, a veteran of the industry with close on thirty years' experience across the corrugated, folding carton and flexible packaging sectors.

Other new appointments include technical development manager, Andrew Payne, who reports to Morriss. To support Gary Jones and his experienced sales team Detmold has a newly-established business development group, Tris Doolan, Darren Eyckens and Todd Theodore, who report to Brian Hunt, Detmold Flexibles' general manager of sales.

“What we haven't lost sight of, and this is our point of difference from the corporates, is our entrepreneurial spirit that comes from the heritage of being a family business,” says Morriss “We're flexible, easy to do business with, and excited by the opportunities that we see in the market, opportunities to innovate and grow alongside our customers.”

The Detmold plot is clear: invest $10 million dollars in upgrading printing, laminating, slitting and converting capability; put people in place to drive growth in sales and provide technical support; and set the business up as a nimble player in a market that is hungry for an alternative supplier.

And if there's a requirement for award-winning expertise, look no further. Detmold has won a number of National Print awards, AFTA awards, and PICA awards and was a recent recipient of the DuPont award for Flexographic excellence.
